HAPPY NEW YEAR!

It wouldn't be New Year's Day without a geocaching breakfast at Hope Lutheran Church.  About 100 Cachers (some coming as far as Hamilton, Ontario) converge for food, chatter, and door prizes!

HNY26-17th Annual Geocaching Breakfast Event

Bobo's Dad, Bobo, TaGeez and Scrapcat

Then 11:00 AM strikes, and it's time to geocache! 433 geocaches hidden by 17 Cachers from Commerce Township to Harsen's Island - Romeo to Detroit. Traditionals, Mysteries, Wherigos, Multis and Letterboxes.

It was cold (19°) but glorious to be out! TaGeez & I did a great job picking our area to cache - we scored 34 FTFs out of 37 finds! SO many animal tracks and quiet roads. We love caching BWY Gand and Ramblin Rumble caches.

We jokingly called this picture 'Scrapcat finally climbs a tree!'

Last year was such a hard year so I'm taking this a sign of a good start to a fresh year. Looking forward to many more caches, more souvenirs, and more time outside.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Caching New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Nobody celebrates like the Southeastern Michigan Geocaching Community!

Kicking out the the old and kicking off the new (plus earning two new souvenirs),
we headed to 3 HNY events within 24 hours!

***

First up was Team Gate's celebration on New Year Eve at noon. Welcome to Warren City Hall!

19 - The Final Hours Flash Mob GC8H26B

After freezing our butts off, we donned our good wares, grabbed the deviled eggs, and head off to Frito's Open House in Livonia. There we solve jigsaw puzzles and geocaching origami, alongside friends playing board games. We stay until midnight to ring in the new year.

Celebrating the Year to Come: A 20/20 Vision GC8FR5E

But once we toast, time to grab our dishes as run because we have to be up early for Team GSIXX5666's Happy New Year event across town in Warren. All proceeds for breakfast goes to Hope Lutheran's trip to Haiti this year. Path tags, door prizes and kayak raffles next.

HNY20 - 11th Annual Geocaching Breakfast Event GC8CZ63

After a hearty breakfast and a lot of laughter, we head out into the cold to find as many of the 206 newly hidden caches (hidden by local cachers) as possible. TaGeez and I hid 18 this, and we were lucky enough to score almost a dozen first to finds!

Our first FTF! And it's a T5!

TaGeez and I hit the rode alone this year, but it gave us some much needed 'us' time on our geo-adventure. First-to-finds and then a relaxing lunch at a new restaurant and caches some more.

Such an amazing start to the new year with friends!

Let's keep it going! My geo-resolution this year is more road trips with friends.

And So Wraps Another Year...

It's the end of 2018 with a great start to 2019. We know how to celebrate in Southeastern Michigan.

Team Gates held his annual New Year's Eve Flash Mob. Between the Monday midday meet and the downpour, only the diehards were out there freezing.

I'm the lady in red!

And then we migrated to Frito's house for jigsaw puzzles, appetizers and ringing in the New Year in his gorgeous library!

Getting ready for the countdown

Geocachers know how to party!
Captain O's crew, Citocacher, SCOOK and Oneforfortytwo

Getting the bubbly ready
Hawaii Vi, PaRaDiZ, Warrior Princess, afishoutofwater and me!

Ooh, swag bags! LOVE IT!

We were back on the road early Tuesday morning for Glenn's 10th Annual Happy New Year event.

We hid 15 along the Woodward Heights Corridor

Great turnout of almost 200 geocachers enjoying the 388 new caches published.

Hanging with MamaJoyce

We had a shorter day than normal (to go pickup my Dad, Poplob), but we still managed 15 FTFs along Hayes! Thank you, Ramblin' Rumble and BWY Gang! And thank you to Geocaching.com for two more souvenirs for my profile!

Souvenirs are Shiny Ornaments on our Geocaching Tree

WOW! That's a little eye-opening! I'm a cliche!

I had a good laugh when I earned the Trackable Lover souvenir for December. It resembles so many trackable lovers I know!

This is not the only souvenir earned this month. Geocaching.com surprised millions of geocachers in December when it awarded five new country souvenirs including THE UNITED STATES! It makes total sense, though. How many geocachers visit from overseas annually? Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of the actual souvenir, but one more closer to some challenges.

This will not be our last chance to earn souvenirs this year. They announced the Last/New Year souvenirs in December, too.

Earning the souvenirs is easy:
  • Find a geocache or attend an event on December 31 to earn the Thanks 2018 souvenir
  • Find a geocache or attend an event on January 1 to earn the Hello 2019 souvenir.
Luckily, TaGeez and I will have no problem earning these souvenirs with Frito Bandito's Last Day of a Great 2018 event and gsix5666's HNY19 - 10th Annual New Year's Day M&G. It's in the bag!

Great Start to the New Year

This morning several hundred geocachers descended on Hope Lutheran Church to celebrate the new year, raise funds for a charitable cause and run for new caches! 418 to be exact!

This was a banner event this year!

> TaGeez and I hid 16 caches for the event also attended by...
> WikidKriket, SnakeyLicks and Bubble's parents joined us for an enjoyable breakfast cooked by...
> My aunt and cousin and other fabulous people from the church as their fundraiser
> TaGeez and I won a sour cream pound cake and Kriket WON A KAYAK!
> Then we hit the road for a lovely grouping of caches near New Haven!

Today we found 20 caches with 13 of them first-to-find! Awesome adventure in very cold weather. And then home for dinner with PopLob.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Ringing In the New Year

Having a great time at the Frito Bandito's New Year Eve's event!

Jigsaw puzzles, origami geo-puzzles and appetizers in a big, cozy library. After we ring in the new year, we will run for the event Cache, earning us our first FTF and a souvenir for 2018!

Happy New Years Eve!

Frigid cold but great energy on the City of Warren Plaza! Another memorable event by Team Gates!

Afterwards a group of us headed to Hope Lutheran to setup for tomorrow's HNY-18 breakfast event. We rewarded ourselves with Green Lantern's Pizza - YUM!

Now off to Frito's to ring in the New Year! Happy New Years everyone!

Refections & Resolutions

It's the cusp of a new year. There are events scheduled and souvenirs to be had these two days. In the spirit of reflections and resolutions:

Reflections: What was your favorite Cache find last year and why?

Resolutions: Which cache do you hope to find in 2018?

Starting a New Book - 2017

This last book was a bit of a flop. Thinking this one needs a little more adventure in it.

Any of these would help greatly:

Smithsonian National Museum Natural History Tour
Back Roads and Beaches GeoTour
Clinton County Quilt Barn GeoTour
Michigan Counties Challenge: Upper Penninsula

We'll see what happens in 2017!
