New Geotour Souvenir!

Thank you, ShelleyJean, for sharing the good news!

Geocaching.com has released the souvenirs for archived geotours, and I finally have my Smithsonian one! ☀️ I'm dancing happy because the Natural History GeoTour was one of the best experiences with friends, and now I have a coin and a souvenir to remember it by.

What Doesn't Kill You....

Look at this really fabulous coin TaGeez received from his daughter for Father's Day! The back reads:
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Except for bears. Bears will kill you."

Happy Father's Day!

The Treasure (Tags) of Mary Hyde

About a year ago, Geocaching.com gave free tracking numbers to anyone who completed the Mary Hyde Treasure challenges. Like most, TaGeez and I activated these codes, and they sat in our trackable inventories ever since.

This week I found a coupon code on retailmenot.com for 2 free small customizable luggage tags (code APPTAGS) from Shutterfly.com. I thought, "Why not? What do I have to lose?" (answer: a rather pricey shipping fee -- should've waited for another coupon!). So I ordered these with our  Mary Hyde trackable numbers on front!

They came! These are the smaller ones, but still a good size (2"x3"). I think what has surprised me most is the quality and feel of them - they are a good weight.

What are we going to do with them? Probably leave them in our trackable inventories :) But they look just right to add to a backpack strap, don't they? Hmmm...

Poison Ivy Comes a Creeping All Around

Tis the season for the funky, three-leaf  demon, and I'm seeing more and more posts on Facebook from local sufferers. There are so many remedies going around including a $46 bar of soap. But I find a $3 bottle of Dawn dish soap kept in the shower is the answer to many troubles. They key, though, is to listen to this guy below.

Good luck out there!

#DucktalesCache Trackable Promotion

IT'S HERE!

Even if you receive one of the coveted emails, it doesn't necessarily mean you will receive your free promotional trackable.

So when I received my emails for the geocaching.com/Ducktales promotion, I crossed my fingers and waited with bated breath!

Not only did I score one, but so did TaGeez and B-Rat! Between us we have...

Huey, Louie AND Dewey!

Two original trackables plus their proxies
As we know how trackables fare, we made a few proxies to send out into the wild. Pretty fun, eh?

Top: Original front and back
Bottom: backside of the proxies

I'm excited that each proxy (Huey, Louie, Dewey and Webby) have their own unique trackable icon. They are already in a cache and ready to go!

Virtually Impossible to Earn this FTF

Talk about things out of reach. I never thought I'd ever claim an {FTF} on a Virtual, but it happened this weekend!

Sunday found TaGeez and I on Grosse Ile - a lovely island in the Detroit River. Stan&Ruth were lucky enough to be awarded a Virtual last summer and were hosting a meet and greet to celebrate its release.

Virtual Reward: Grosse Ile Depot GC7B63W

Stan had campaigned to the local historical society for the right to place a Virtual on the Grosse Ile Historical Society grounds. The event was a joint celebration between the geocaching community and the historical society.

Freckles enjoying the event
Good turnout, too. I counted approximately 29 attendees enjoying the tale swapping, TB discovering, and enjoying the society grounds.

With this esteemed crowd, Stan realized a Geocaching 101 lesson was not needed. Soon he gathered us around to share the good news: the event attendees were all eligible to claim FTF on the cache when it released! Stan calculates the reward was based on his high Favorited/low maintenance caches, and he wanted to thank the geocaching community.

Mazie and Freckles

Although the group photo was proof-enough to claim the reward, we still grabbed his print-outs and set about to answer the qualifying questions... having a little fun along the way.

If you sign the register during open hours, you will be rewarded a small "commemorative collectible". Woo hoo!

After you visit the Virtual, cross the street and go down the stairs to the public beach. Lovely view.

The water is so high the approach is under water!
