Tawas City Adventure

You know adventure is afoot when TaGeez shows up with an armload of donuts! It was the first of many instances where TaGeez didn't behave (can we say Cheese Haus, Sweetie?)

TaGeez and I decided to escape Saturday to the Pinconning/Tawas City area for a quilt shop. Lo! With the beautiful blue skies and fresh breeze, that task was completed quickly, and we found the road beneath out wheels.

Seems like a good today to visit a few Virtuals in upper lower, don'tcha think?

If you are not familiar with the area you might enjoy knowing that in the logging days, the loggers would chill their whiskey jugs in this stream. Each man had his own jug. And trouble would start if it was touched by another.

This one cracked me up, when you look closely. Is this actually an Artesian well, with an interesting spout? It was quite the drive to this remote little spot.

Look what crossed our paths? Saw this lovely Sandhill Crane family moseying along as we trekked from one Virtual to the next.

Also in the area is this Virtual - the last we needed to check off this quadrant. Admittedly I have mixed feelings about this roadside zoo. There were only a handful of animals and the cages seemed well-maintained, but.....

We continued down M-65 which took us to this stunning view of the Canoer's Memorial (where we spied our first Indigo Bunting)....

... and onto Lumberman's Monument.

This brings back such memories! My family vacationed here every year so I wanted to stop and see how last year's fire affected it. Luckily. it only took the woods across the street and not this stunning view. Relieved, we merrily left after visiting the exhibits and the shop. Unfortunately, we neglected to check the Adventure Lab app to see there was one there. TaGeez said this is just another excuse to trek back there!

We consoled ourselves with Tony's Tacos and a First-to-Find about a mile up the coast!

Pretty amazing view from our picnic table - new pier! GC9TR0A

We turned to Tawas Point, one of my favorite spots in Michigan. Birders on the local birding sites have been posting amazing pictures along that .6 mile walk from the parking lot to the point. TaGeez was game, as we walked around with our binoculars and Merlin app, but we had very little luck.

We did spy this beauty! Howdy, dear!

And can't forget this one! Our second First-to-Find today

All-in-all, an amazing adventure! It felt so good, on the road and on the hunt 💓

We need to do more of this!
