Cache Hunter Blues

This is Cache Hunter. He was my companion during this summer's #geocaching15 challenges.  He even traveled with me to California and back.

This is Cache Hunter with his commemorative backpack. It's limited edition.... and now it's missing. Heartbreaking.

It disappeared out of my bag at an event and can't be replaced. Upsetting. I contacted Groundspeak hoping there might be a chance.... with no response. And now he's completely out of stock.

This is Cache Hunter. Seeing him without his backpack hurts my heart and makes me very angry.

Happy International Geocaching Day!

Happy International Geocaching Day!

TaGeez and I decided to celebrate by grabbing a very fun cache to earn our souvenir...

The Lodestone Getaway GC4Q1DJ

...and then had to grab 6 more on the way home.

You never know what you will find in a
rest stop cache GC22B68

Our newest souvenir fit in quite well with the two new ones we added to our collection last night!

GS15: Let's Get Extreme

We did it! The latest #Geocaching15 Challenge kicked off yesterday so TaGeez and I headed to Detroit!

This challenge is to find a D5 or T5 cache for the special souvenir. Between us we had 4 D5 caches (all challenges) on standby. The one we chose was extra special as we qualified for it during an epic 4-day 2000-mile 10-state adventure in May!

Friday night might not have been the smartest time to go downtown as the Tigers had a home game and the Youth League conference was letting out. In high humidity, we maneuvered through pedestrians in peacock colors, Woodward Light Rail construction, a few urban eccentrics and the citizens of the D cooling themselves in chairs outside their apartments, we finally made the grab! A beauty in a back alley!

I really think we earned this one. Looking forward to the next two souvenir challenges plus the bonus!

GS15: Fun With Favorites

Oh, forgot to share this one! #Geocaching15 Fun with Favorites! My first California geocache had over 200 favorite points! I dropped off several dozen trackables and picked up a couple dozen to bring home! Lovely stop in a California history museum.

G15: Meet Your Road Trip Crew

Earned our second #Geocaching15 Road Trip souvenir last night! Big turn out - many newbies - everyone wanting their virtual badge! Woot!

At The Pier... Waving...

For those that have read my blog for awhile, you know that any time I'm quiet for a period of time I've been traveling. If you read yesterday's post, you know my recent adventure was in magnificent San Francisco!

In town for a work-related convention, I was itching to seek the Golden State's Treasures. Not knowing how much time I'd have, I compiled a list of Virtuals, highly-favorited caches and a webcam. I nabbed the At The Pier webcam GCMKWT the very first night!

The At The Pier webcam focuses on three famous Frisco destinations on Pier 39 - Fisherman's Wharf: the sea lions, Golden Gate Bridge, and Alcatraz. It's a popular camera - constantly being moved - which makes this adventure all the more difficult because you can't maneuver the camera from your phone. That's right - you have to do it the old-fashion way...  with a buddy's help.

You would think this would be a cakewalk with my other half home recuperating from surgery and sitting next to a computer 24/7, right? Nope. Just as I left for the trip our Internet went out. Aargh! Luckily I had a backup plan - my sister only extorted me a little.

If you get a chance for this webcam, do it. Of the dozen I've experienced this one has the clearest picture. You can find the instructions here:

Skip the overpriced souvenir shops - this was the best souvenir ever! Hopefully when you give it a go, the floating docks will be a little busier with barking sea mammals behind you!

Cache Hunter: Scrapcat

It's been a stressful time in the Richardson household so I decided to treat myself to another goodie.

This is Cache Hunter: Scrapcat!  This Lego fellow is going to accompany me to all my #geocaching15 quests this summer! Watch for pictures!

And he's trackable, too!

Flippin' the Switch

I'll be the first to admit that I was a little disappointed in the selection of geocoins for celebrating Geocaching's 15 years until I saw this!  Beautiful, isn't it?

Hard to tell from these pictures, but this is a large, heavy coin.  It takes up most of my palm.

Geocaching Road Trip 2015: FAVES

Today kicks off the first of the Geocaching Road Trip 2015!

Every two weeks you face a new quest to earn up to five special Road Trip souvenirs. If you complete all five, you earn a sixth special souvenir for your profile! You must complete these quests by September 2nd to qualify.

Your first quest is to find a cache with more than 10 Favorite Points! Great way to explore widely loved geocaches in your community.  They even have Spotify playlist to groove with!

Once you log it, the souvenir will appear on your account and on most of your mobile apps.

Make sure to upload pictures of your adventures and tag it with #Geocaching15 to share with millions of your closest geocaching friends.

Seems like the perfect way to kick off summer to me!
